A letter from Dr. Regan: SNACS Updates for Distance Learning

Dear SNACS Families,

Governor Sisolak and the Nevada Department of Education announced this week all Nevada schools will continue distance learning for the rest of the school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision is consistent with federal guidelines and the Governor’s COVID-19 Safety Task Force, state education, and health officials to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff members.

Teaching and learning will continue through the end of the school year. Our goal is to see every SNACS student attain their fourth-quarter goals and continue learning to finish the year strong! All teachers MUST hold a weekly check-in with each student, additional video calls, ongoing digital chats, office hours for ongoing support as needed, video tutorials, video storytime, resources, assignments, and paper packets to support your student’s learning. Thank you, TEACHERS!

SNACS will continue to provide weekly packets for families who need them. Thank you, ADMIN SUPPORT TEAM!

Teachers must maintain weekly contact with your child to report attendance to the state. Please share this with your child. It is imperative to ensure funding continues to pay our teachers! THANK YOU, PARENTS!

Grading for the third and fourth quarters will continue. However, SNACS teachers must only grade for growth. This means students who turn in work and participate in weekly calls and chats increase grades from whatever their grade was on March 6 (prior to Spring Break and the COVID-19 epidemic and resulting distance learning). This means all students can continue to increase their grades. No student will decrease in their grades lower than their grade March 6. We are embracing the opportunity to grow and all students have to do is show up, stay connected, and engage!!! THANK YOU, STUDENTS!

We are promoting mastery. This means students may continue to work on any area they did not master within any activity to earn the additional points toward mastery. This means all students earn points for work completed and participation in calls and chats. Please encourage your children to participate in video calls, contact teachers in open office hours if they need help, and administration if necessary. Mr. Schoenfeldt at vschoenfeldt@snacs.org Mr. John mrjohn@snacs.org and Dr. Regan kregan@snacs.org. We would love to hear how SNACS has positively impacted you and your family during this time!

The admin leadership team is planning a family zoom call night in the next few weeks. Be sure to check emails and social media for video messages, newsletters, and updates. If you need to update your phone or other information, contact Mrs. Baumann at dbaumann@snacs.org.

We are here to support families and their children, to continue learning and growing during this time! We are in this together!

All children 18 and younger are eligible to receive free meals over 20 sites with no requirements or documentation required. The information is available on our website www.snacs.org.

We will arrange device, text, and library book returns via drive-through at the end of May and the beginning of June. All items are inventory and devices are serviced with annual updates and preparation for the new school year. Please be sure to complete your enrollment information asap with Mrs. Snell-Deihl at ksnell@snacs.org. We have waiting lists for the 2020-2021 school year.

I am so grateful for our collective connection in our SNACS community. We are bigger than COVID-19 and are taking 2020 back by showing up powerfully, being present and intentional in connecting with students and families, and ensuring we will be stronger on the other side of this!

Please stay healthy and safe! I’m sending love and positive thoughts to everyone in our small school community!

With Gratitude,

Dr. Kimberly Regan
