Hello SNACS families!
We are ready to begin the 22nd year of operation as we kick off the 2019-2020 school year!
We have spent time this summer designing some new innovative programming for students all students. We are the only school in northern Nevada licensed to perform The Lion King through our new arts program! Teachers were trained I. Our new thinklaw program which teaches student how to think like a lawyer using critical thinking skills. We are implementing grade- level success seminars for middle school and classes for elementary through our counseling program. We are expanding our creative writing and journalism opportunities to include a student newspaper and literary arts magazine along with our authored published books.
We have expanded our accessible space at the Fox campus to add additional classrooms, a basketball court, beach volleyball court, bocce ball, and a simulated human whack-a-mole game among other activities. Students have the opportunity to be SNACS leaders!
Here are updates you need to know:
Kindergarten teachers are scheduling families to complete initial assessments with students 1:1. This helps students complete assessments and meet the teacher prior to the first day of school.
Student in grades 1st-4th arrive at the Stead site for school to begin at 8:00am. Students will report directly to classrooms after 7:45am and the assembly will be held later in the day. This is to help our younger students find their teacher without the big crowd in the morning as it can be confusing.
Students in grades 5-8th will report to the Fox campus for school to start at 8:15am. Class lists for homeroom teachers will be posted outside the gates and there will be a welcome assembly.
The Stead campus dismissal begins at 2:45 and the Fox campus dismissal begins at 3:00pm. Please be patient while we work to ensure all students are picked with the appropriate person as the first few days can be tricky and student priority is essential. Visitors are not allowed to visit classrooms 15 minutes prior to or during dismissal as all staff members must focus on students during this time.
Finally, there is a new technology policy and no cell phones are permitted during class time. Students must be focused on learning during class time and cell phones are a distraction. If you need to get a message to your child during class time, you may call the front office.
Finally, we are experiencing technical difficulties with our all-call system and are working to correct the issue.
We have a full year planned and look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!
