What is the PLAY™ approach?

A different approach to helping students learn, grow, and succeed.

At Sierra Nevada Academy Charter School, we believe students learn best when they are engaged, supported, and connected to their learning.

That’s why we developed the PLAY™ Approach—a framework designed to help students build strong academic foundations while developing the confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills they’ll use throughout their lives.

PLAY™ is more than a teaching strategy. It’s a commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences that help students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

What Play™ looks like

Purposeful learning

Students understand why they’re learning something and how it connects to the world around them.

Active engagement

Students participate in hands-on experiences, discussions, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

Leadership development

Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, contribute to their community, and develop confidence in their abilities.

Academic accountability

High expectations remain at the center of everything we do. Students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Why families choose PLAY™

Families often tell us they want more than test scores. They want a school where their child:

  • Feels known and supported
  • Develops confidence and independence
  • Stays engaged in learning
  • Builds meaningful relationships
  • Is prepared for future success

The PLAY™ Approach helps make that possible.

The Result

Students leave SNACS with more than academic knowledge. They leave with the skills, habits, and confidence needed to navigate future challenges, pursue their goals, and contribute positively to their communities.

Experience PLAY™ for yourself

The best way to understand the PLAY™ Approach is to see it in action.
