Why Nevada’s First Charter School is Still Its Best

The Sierra Nevada Academy Charter School (SNACS) was granted charter April 7, 1999 by the Washoe County School District, becoming Nevada’s first charter school for elementary and middle school students in grades K–8. Over 20 years later, SNACS is still Bringing the Small School Community Back to the Neighborhood by fostering personalized learning, technology, choice, family engagement, and STEM focused courses to drive exceptional student achievement. Learn more about our history and impact >

Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, SNACS extended its programming to include a high school curriculum. The school will celebrate its first high school graduates in the spring of 2022. Learn more about our new high school curriculum >

At the core of our cutting-edge curriculum is our innovative educational model: Promoting Learning and Accountability in Youth, or PLAY. This experiential learning philosophy engages students in multidisciplinary learning paths, centered on their own interests, that lead to tangible, real-world goals. These individual and group projects are supplemented with rigorous, college preparatory academics. Learn more about our unique educational model >

Dr. Regan, Chief Executive Officer, developed the PLAY model and has worked closely with at-risk students her entire career. The longest-serving charter school administrator in Nevada, Dr. Regan lends her passion and expertise to educational initiatives across the state and nation. Request an interview with Dr. Regan >
