Sierra Nevada Academy Charter School is the first K-8 charter school in Nevada (1999).  SNACS Preschool is a partner non-profit entity serving young children and their families from birth through kindergarten and a before and after school.  SNACS is a NAEYC accredited program and a Nevada Ready Preschool Development Block Grant Program.  We are located in the North Valleys of Reno and serve the local community.  SNACS is rated a 4-star school on the Nevada School Performance Framework.  SNACS Preschool is participating in the Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS).

Seeking Early Childhood Educators (Teachers serving students in Preschool – Kindergarten)

Position: Certified Early Childhood Education Teachers (Prek-Kindergarten)

Start Date: Fall 2018

Salary:  We follow the WCSD salary schedule.  Salaries based on education and experience.

Education Requirements: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or related field and be eligible to obtain a Nevada teaching license.

Experience: Experience in ECE preferred. Candidates are expected to assess students using a spectrum of tools.  Candidates are expected to use assessment data to design Personal Learning Plans for all students and deliver high quality instruction using a circle, center, seat model.  Candidates are expected to deliver a positive behavior support system that enhances social and emotional growth.  Candidates are expected to engage students and their families to support the small school community.  Experience in and understanding of these areas are preferred.

Other Requirements: Must meet all certification requirements as a highly qualified early childhood education teacher in grades preschool through third grade.  Candidates are expected to understand early childhood development and be passionate about teaching young children.   Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of technology in the classroom setting.

Job Description:  Early Childhood Education teachers are expected to work as part of a collaborative P-3 team ensuring all children are reading by third grade.  Each member of the team is expected to adhere to high expectations and deliver effective instruction that yields positive student outcomes.  Teachers work as a team to develop Personal Learning Plans for every student in all subject areas based on school-wide assessments.  Assessment data and Personal Learning Plans are used to design instruction using a circle, center, seat model and ability groups by subject area through promoting choice.  Teachers are expected to deliver a positive behavior support system that enhances social and emotional growth.  Teachers are expected to engage students and their families to support the small school community.

 


Seeking Educators (Teachers serving students in third through twelfth grade)

Position: Certified Education Teachers 

Start Date: Summer 2018

Salary:  We follow the WCSD salary schedule.  Salaries based on education and experience.

Education Requirements: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field and be eligible to obtain a Nevada teaching license.

Experience: Experience in elementary, intermediate, and high school preferred. Candidates are expected to assess students using a spectrum of tools.  Candidates are expected to use assessment data to design Personal Learning Plans for all students and deliver high quality instruction using a circle, center, seat model with blended learning leveraging technology.  Candidates are expected to deliver a positive behavior support system that enhances social and emotional growth.  Candidates are expected to engage students and their families to support the small school community.  Experience in and understanding of these areas are preferred.  Experience coaching and facilitating learning is essential to the school model.

Other Requirements: Must meet all certification requirements as a highly qualified education teacher in grades fourth through twelfth grade.  Candidates are expected to understand chil dand adolescent development and be passionate about teaching/inspiring students.   Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of technology in the classroom setting.

Position: Part-time  or Full-time Counselor – dependent on case load.

Education Requirements: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in area of expertise or related field, Master’s Degree or a more advanced degree preferred, in school counseling or related field from a regionally accredited college or university with student teaching experience and must be eligible to obtain a Nevada counselling license.

Job Description:  Counselors are expected to work as part of a collaborative team ensuring all children are successful on the trajectory to excel on the P-20 pathway to college and career readiness.  Each member of the team is expected to adhere to high expectations and deliver effective instruction that yields positive student outcomes.  the counselor will implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program by creating programs and activities to support the State of Nevada’s School Counseling Program. The program, comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature focuses on what all students K-8 should know, understand and be able to do in three domain areas: academic, career and personal/social. The focus is on academic success of all students, not just those students who are motivated, supported and ready to learn. School counseling programs help all students achieve success in school and develop into contributing members of our society. The counselor performs counseling activities which includes helping all students develop specific skills, establishing the school counseling program, working with the community, and networking with all professionals at the school and within the counseling community.

Helps all students develop skills in the areas of academic-personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development; establishes the school counseling program based upon the American School Counseling Association (ACSA) model and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program; works with the community to assist students and families in need of services outside the school’s resources; and networks with all professionals at school and within the counseling community to monitor and assess needs of students at the site. Counselors support all stakeholders to help all students become career and college ready.

Assist students with developing skills that support academic achievement and lifelong learning; assists students with investigating career opportunities; assists students with acquiring skills that maximize their personal and social development; maintains confidentiality, facilitates and /or participates in conferences with teachers, students, and parents; consults with and serves as a resource for the community; maintains student records and uses Infinite Campus (IC) appropriately, participates in on-going professional development, complies with school and district policies and state and federal laws; attends training and ongoing professional development, participates in the school improvement process and supports staff progress towards educational goals.

Knowledge of: Child development; behavior and characteristics of students; interpersonal relations; effective instructional practices; federal education school law; national counseling model and state counseling program standards; legal and ethical standards of counseling; career development models; application of local resources; use of technology in education; and signs and symptoms of substance abuse.

Skill at: Listening and communicating; implementing and supporting collaborative decision making; working with culturally diverse backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, and other staff members; working with school age children and parents; collecting and analyzing data and drawing logical conclusions; and effective instructional methodology in the classroom.
